Some (fairly) new music that I’ve been digging, and that some might be interested in hearing about:

• CSS – Cansei de Ser Sexy
• The White Stripes – Icky Thump
• Justice – Cross
• LCD Soundsystem – Sound of Silver
• Peter Bjorn and John – Writer’s Block
• Modest Mouse – We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
• Deerhoof – The Runners Four

Some of these are actually kind of old news, but I haven’t posted in awhile.

Some comments:

(1) Pitchfork only gave CSS a 6.0. That’s proof that I don’t just like everything that they like (I’m looking at you, Baad).

(2) Not sure what to say just yet about Icky Thump. I’m sure glad that they still know how to make some rock songs (e.g., “Icky Thump,” “Bone Broke,” etc.). But, “Conquest” kind of freaks me out.

(3) I know that die hard Modest Mouse fans jumped off that train at Good News for People Who Love Bad News (which was right around the time the rest of the world jumped on that train). But, I am impressed. They still made a good album and Johnny freakin’ Marr is in the band now. They also have James Mercer doing some backups. It’s almost becoming a super-group. And super-groups often suck (I’m looking at you, Audioslave).
